Teaching English Language Learners Part 2

This course will enrich your understanding of your role as an educator for English language learners (ELLs). In this course, you will engage in critical discussions about pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment through an anti-oppression lens. You will deepen your understanding of additional language learning theories and engage in the practical application of those theories. You will explore universal design for learning (UDL) and culturally responsive pedagogy within the context of teaching ELLs. You will develop strategies to support ELLs in both their academics and in their social-emotional learning, develop new school-wide initiatives designed to create a more inclusive school community for ELLs and devise a research-based inquiry project to share ideas on how to best support ELLs. The course culminates with the creation of a media product to share the results of your research-based inquiry project.
