<p>Religious Education Part 1 provides you with the professional knowledge and the religious literacy necessary for teaching within Ontario Catholic School boards. As you work through the material, you will learn how to integrate religious teachings into the classroom, build faith communities through personal and communal knowledge, and, through ongoing faith formation, grow as an adult member of the Catholic Church.</p>
<p>This course is designed as a positive learning experience – allowing you to search for meaning through personal reflection and interactions with your colleagues and instructor. You will also have the opportunity to develop a portfolio that showcases your understanding of the distinctive vision that Ontario's Catholic Schools have for their students.</p>
<p>In this course, you will:</p>

<li>learn how Ontario's Catholic schools provide a distinctive approach to education</li>
<li>familiarize yourself with the Ontario Council of Teacher's Foundation of Public Practice and the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations</li>
<li>become familiar with the key teachings of the Catholic faith</li>
<li>understand the significance of being a member of a faith community</li>
<li>become familiar with the Church's understanding of Scripture</li>
<li>learn the principles of sacramentality</li>
<li>understand how prayer is essential to faith</li>
<li>learn the importance of the liturgical year</li>
<li>understand the complexity of moral living and moral decision making</li>
<li>understand the importance of integrating the social teachings of the Church into the broader curriculum</li>
<li>understand the relationship between assessment and evaluation</li>
<li>write your reflections in a journal</li>
<li>identify and investigate a value or trend in today's society</li>
<li>compare and reflect on various parts of the Scripture</li>
<li>familiarize yourself with various Catholic documents such as the Catholic Catechism</li>
<li>integrate miracles and parables into your daily curriculum</li>
<li>create a representation of a special moment in your life</li>
<li>outline an approach to deal with moral and ethical issues in the classroom</li>
<li>design a prayer service</li>
<li>create a religious portfolio</li>
<li>develop an tool to evaluate your portfolio</li>
